In BUFA Executive

BUFA strongly encourages its members to run for Senate.

Senate nominations are due March 12, 2018 at 4:30 pm. The nomination form is available at https://brocku.ca/university-secretariat/senate-election-2. Candidates also may submit a statement to the Secretariat (maximum 200 words) to be posted on the Senate website. If you send BUFA a copy of your statement ([email protected]) by March 13, we will circulate it to all BUFA members as well.

Senate has responsibility for the educational policy of the University. Senate should be a place for the visioning, planning, reviewing, and prioritizing of academic matters. Brock, therefore, needs Senators who understand the primacy of faculty voice in academic decision making, as well as believing in the validity of our academic knowledge, pedagogical experience, and scholarly orientation.

Here are the top three reasons why you should consider running for Senate this year and not put it off to some time in the future.

1. We are seeing a worrying tendency for some Administrators to take more control over academic decisions. This trend needs to be countered by a strong Senate voice, in which Senate asserts its leadership role in academic matters.

2. Senate provides a space for faculty voices to shape the academic mission and priorities of the university.

3. Several major initiatives that will affect enrolment patterns in academic units, restructuring of academic units, internal allocation of funding, and program offerings are likely to be started and/or implemented over the next year.

For all of these reasons, and more, please consider having an active role in Senate for next year and stand for election.
